“Each of us is carving a stone, erecting a column, or cutting a piece of stained glass in the construction of something much bigger than ourselves”. -Adrienne Clarkson
It has been an adventure working on the Board of Directors for ISM-SFV. I wasn’t sure if I was up for the task given to me by our beloved Elaine Whittington that summer night in 2011. What could I do? She had been brave and bold in being the first in her field. She had the vision to start this wonderful organization. How could I contribute?
I could learn from the best. “Knowledge” is the tool that sticks out in my mind when I think of my time on the board. Before joining ISM-SFV and the board I had skills that I felt would be helpful. I knew a little about web design and was trying to start an alumni association for my high school. Being on the board honed my skills and increased my knowledge of design and the inner working of a Board of Directors. I learned how to be a better designer, marketer and communicator.
Martin Luther King, Jr. once said “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing for others? “My answer, all I can. During my six years of service I have met many new people and had a lot of amazing experiences in the service of others. Service has been an important part of my life and a constant source of satisfaction and joy. I hope after you read this you will consider joining the board to take on the challenge that Elaine gave me and give back to ISM-SFV, Our Supply Chain Community. ♥ Kristi Toney
