“Teach your children poetry; it opens the mind, lends grace to wisdom and makes the heroic virtues hereditary.” -Walter Scott

April is Poetry Month!!

Now, I am sure you are wondering what poetry has to do with purchasing, right?

Here’s the deal poets like James Baldwin and Walter Scott demonstrated to the world that the use of Poetry as a tool can activate critical thinking, attract visionary ideas, teach collaboration and uncover new options in challenging situations.

As an advocate, reader and writer of poetry, who stumbled into Purchasing, I have found these attributes to be very useful in my career and daily life.  Ready to meet any challenge and making a point to get to know the people I interact with to create solid relationships is a goal and thinking outside the box is a trademark.

Poetry can be fun, relaxing and moving. If you’re not much of a writer then be like my favorite Shaolin monk, David Carridine who once said “if you cannot be a poet be the poem”  Kristi Toney

” Woman in Leadership, SEX, GREED AND WAR: It’s a Leadership Issue, Not a B Movie”  presented by Ariane David, PhD

What’s up with sex, greed and war? Why they are the most resilient and persistent issues today? What keeps the whole mess so stuck? What if they have less to do with human nature, and everything to do with leadership?

What if we’re asking all the wrong questions when it comes to leadership? What if we have completely ignored what might be our most promising leadership tool?  Where does “thinking” come into it?

And finally, what does it mean to you and your organization?
